State Organizer (Florida CHAIN)

General Description: Recruit and empower consumers to become involved in health access issues and organize publicity and education events.

Functions:

  • Identify, train and engage consumers in health advocacy campaigns
  • Creatively document consumer experiences including photo essays, YouTube videos and e-alerts to highlight campaign issues
  • Identify opportunities and trains consumers to testify at public events including press conferences, town hall meetings and policymaker meetings
  • Assist consumers in participating in local and statewide health access meetings to ensure their point of view is included among stakeholders
  • Develop a Florida CHAIN consumer membership model in conjunction with staff
  • Develop and update an accessible consumer database
  • Refer and prepare consumers to speak to reporters about their health care experiences
  • Assist in organizing public events, focusing on consumer involvement
  • Provide presentations to consumer organizations as necessary
  • Update content on social media sites
  • Identify individuals who are willing to share stories with press and other policy makers
  • Assist individuals by providing them with information and referrals about health access.
  • Conduct and/or coordinate outreach and recruitment activities such as phone calls, mailings, public presentations for consumer health advocacy events

Travel Requirements
Traveling throughout the state might be required for up to 40% of working hours. Valid driver's license and insurance required.

Skills and Experience

  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Public speaking ability desirable
  • Fluency in Spanish preferred
  • Strong cross-cultural communication skills important
  • Background in community organizing
  • Some knowledge of health policy or social services
